Nice work Beth. Comments:
Saquon Barkley is going to tear up the NFL. He isn't a wuss like Bush, remember he played at Penn State.

The draft isn't like an auction. Auctions involve bidding against others. The whole purpose of the draft is so teams can claim players without having to bid against each other.

The combine is dumb. You nailed it, it has little to do with what happens on the field.

Players know what they are signing up for. They have a union to protect them. Maybe they should pay more attention to the business side to protect themselves. Ignorance is bliss.

I agree completely about Reggie Bush. He was able to have a great college career at a time when the PAC-10 was a one-team conference...and it wasn’t even close. USC basically played against junior colleges. When you’ve got most of the top west coast football talent at your school, it’s not hard to look amazing against the “competition.”

There’s a reason that Leinart, Bush, and White did essentially nothing in the NFL. They didn’t have elite NFL talent. They just benefited from playing in what was an historically weak conference.

Barkley, on the other hand, much like Ezekiel Elliott, has played in a tough conference against some of the top defenses and defensive schemes/coaches in college football. And he’s a complete running back, again, like Elliott. I don’t know if he’s as fast or as elusive as Elliott, but his skill set is pretty close and his talents should translate well in the NFL. Bush was always just a speed guy. He didn’t have the power and tackle-breaking or the pass-blocking skills that Barkley and Elliott have.

On the combine, I also agree. It’s great for showcasing speed, strength, and agility, but doesn’t do much for assessing actual on-field talent in most cases. And it’s how you can put it all together on the field that matters most. There’s far too much emphasis on 40 times, in my opinion - just as there’s too much emphasis on height for many positions. I don’t think it’s really fair to these players to almost completely write them off because they’re an inch or two short of what someone believes is the “ideal height” for a position - especially quarterback.

So many amazingly talented players were never really given a shot because they were 6’ or 6’1” instead of 6’3” or taller. It’s a really moronic way to scout and grade players, especially when you consider that they are playing with/against people that are the same height in college. Nobody grows 5 inches between college and the NFL. If you can throw over 6’5” linemen or in your passing lanes in college, you can do it in the pros.

I've seen Barkley play in person. He's going to be the real deal. He'll probably play closer to Leveon Bell than Elliott, he could be a wide receiver if he wasn't such a good running back.

The combine exists because most scouts are terrible at judging talent. Much easier to check off the boxes with 40 times and physical attributes than watch game film to determine a player's real on the field talent.

Great episode, thanks for letting me be a part of it!

btw, RayJ + Kim = Sex Tape...not that I've seen it or anything.

good stuff.. strong opinions... did Reggie Bush really date a Kardashian?

keep it up!

Yeah back in the day.

@bethalea finally got a chance to listen to most of this. I'll just skip over commenting about the actual content, haha. You did an awesome job! I like the flow of it and having people chip in. One thing I would consider - have like an audio/podcast version people could download and then listen while commuting. I never watch videos on data since I'm poor and don't want to use it all up.

Intro is sweet.

Well done, hopefully I'll be able to join in here at some point depending on work and all that other life shit
