DFS DRAWING BOARD - NFL Week 2 - Quarterbacks

in #sports6 years ago (edited)

Welcome to Week 2 of the NFL season and the DFS Drawing Board.  Each week we take a step back to review the upcoming weeks matchups and crunch the numbers to develop a series of position specific articles related to top daily fantasy sports plays.  Whether you are playing on FanDuel, DrafKings, or even configuring your season long NFL lineups, these articles should serve as a reference tool and helpful guide to choosing the best players.  I've shortened these articles to give you only the necessities and bottom-line reasoning as to my top choices.  This is a no bullshi*t article and by that I mean the players and plays I suggest are those that I will be using in my personal lineups.  Nothing is excluded.  We intend to win.  The goal is to make great lineups, win money, and share our success stories.

If you are new to my blog or daily fantasy sports in general, I encourage you to check out my DFS Introduction post which provides some general context on what DFS is and how to play.  Spoiler alert, if you like playing fantasy sports and winning money, DFS is the platform for you.  Also, if you haven’t already, feel free to follow my referral links and sign up for Fanduel and Draftkings.  Each provides its own set of bonuses for new users.

With that being said, here are my top plays at the quarterback position for Week 2.   Enjoy, upvote, and comment on your weekly outlook.

QUARTERBACKS

Ben Roethlisberger – Pittsburgh Steelers

$7,600 / vs. KC / PIT + 4

There is no hiding the fact Big Ben was atrocious last week vs. Cleveland.  This is something, however, we have come to expect from the Steelers signal caller.  Ben’s home/road splits over the last several years and over the course of his career are pretty remarkable.  He is elite at home and below average on the road.  However, this week he and the Steelers take on the Kansas City Chiefs, a team that that they have more or less owned over the last several years. For his career, Roethlisberger owns a 6-1 record vs. the Chiefs with 1,685 yards and a 14/4 TD/INT ratio.  Moreover, the Chiefs secondary has taken a big step backwards coming into this year and just last week gave up 424 passing yards and 3 TDs to Philip Rivers and Co.  Look for Big Ben and the Steelers to rebound this week at home.  His Week 1 performance also has pushed his price to below $8k and hopefully will keep him at low ownership.

Alex Smith – Washington Redskins

$8,900 / vs. IND/ WAS + 5.5

Alex Smith’s season debut with the Washington Redskins couldn’t have gone much better.  He led the Redskins to an easy victory on the road in Arizona, carving up the Cardinals secondary with ease for 255 yards and 2 TDs.  It was pretty vintage Alex Smith, high efficiency, no turnovers, and utilizing his RBs and TEs.  This week he returns home to battle the Indianapolis Colts and what I would consider one of the worst secondary’s in all of pro football.  This play is mostly based on the matchup for Smith and the edge he might be playing with in his first home game as a Washington Redskin. Heading into 2018, ProFootballFocus ranked the Colts secondary as dead last in the NFL.  Alex Smith should have no problem picking apart the Colts at home Week 2.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

Deshaun Watson

$7,400 / at TEN / HOU + 2

Off the rails a little bit here but listen, I was not high on Watson last week nor am I high on him in season long.  I think he is overhyped for a duel threat QB that is coming off a major leg injury and those stats that people rely on are of a small sample size. However, everyone was on him last week and he let them down.  That could mean no-one is on him this week which is where we want to sneak in and capitalize.  He played Tennessee last year and destroyed them with 4 passing TDs and 1 rushing TD. Tannehill had a decent day against the Titans last week in a game that was in bad weather and delayed multiple times. This isn’t my main play but for tournaments, you could potentially get a low owned Deshaun Watson who has 35+ point upside on FanDuel.  Risky but worth if everyone is off him due to last week’s dud.

Good luck out there.....lets win some cash this weekend.
