No substance abuse in Flemish tri- and duathlon in 2017
In 2017 there were no cases of substance abuse in Flemish tri- and duathlon. Or more correctly: no athletes have been caught while using forbidden substances. This is the conclusion of a recently release report by the Flemish dopingauthority (NADO).
All together NADO executed 2002 tests last year: 1063 during competition, 863 outside competition and 76 in gyms. In total 2.5% of all tests were positive.
30 triathletes and 12 duathletes were put through the test after competition and 39 controls were executed outside competition – this is only applicable for elite athletes. All tests were negative, which is a boost for the clean image of the sport.
The bigger sports in the analysis were athletics, with 2.4% positive; road cycling, with 1% positive; soccer, with 0.4% positive; and no positive results in tennis and swimming.
The largest substance abuse was reported in the different power sports: bodybuilding had a 10.8% positive result, boxing 9.1%, powerlifting 6.7%, but the most remarkable result came from recreational gyms: 16 out of 76 tests, 21.1%, came back positive!
