The barefoot running crowd says that people do best with running sandals or minimalist shoes. These contraptions are usually little more than a stiff sole.
I use them for hiking.
I did try barefoot running but only on the sand and on the soft soft grass with nothing on it. Feels great. As for the hiking I need to have strong footwear because my ankles are kind of special lol :D
