How to build a rally car (amateur way) - part 2

in #sport7 years ago

Hi, Steemers!

In previous post I wrote about building a rally car in a professional way for the cars that costs more then half a million GBP.

This post is for us - amateurs - that build their rally cars by themselves or with help of their friends.

My friend helped me a lot during my rally career and without them, I would be nowhere.

When you build a rally car in an amateur way, you must start from the scratch. Whole inside of car must be out, you must remove the engine and gearbox, suspension must be changed for a racing one etc.

Body of the car must be good welded because it must be able to survive all the bumps and jumps, all the holes on gravel rallies because I know how it looks like when you drive on a gravel road 160kms/h with lower class car after the big ones passed it before you.

It's full of holes and ruts that you must follow if you want to stay on the road.

After the body is welded, you must fit in roll bar which I recommend to be original one and homologated. The professional must do it because it's the part of the car that saves your life.

You need seats and belts that are also homologated. It all costs but motorsport is very expensive.

Engine can be standard for group N but if you want to be quick with standard engine, you need a dogbox gearbox. This kind of gearbox for Renault Clio RS 182/172 costs around 5000€ with the drive shafts (SADEV factory gearbox that longs and can suffer).

Suspension must be special so I recommend Ohlins that also costs around 5k€ for Clio. I use Koni ando I am good with that. But Ohlins is the top.

Here we have a short movie about how to build a car in a ten days...
