The javelin thrower is auctioning a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to save a baby.

When the heart is called to help, anything is willing to be done in the name of humanity. This also applies to the javelin thrower from Poland, Maria Andrejczyk who won her Olympic silver medal.

Maria Andrejczyk auctions the silver medal won at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on August 7, 2021. This was done to help pay for the heart surgery of Mi艂oszek Ma艂ysa, an 8-month-old baby. The silver medal was even the 25-year-old athlete's first achievement at the Olympics.

"I didn't take long to think about it. This is my first time doing a fundraiser and I believe this is the right thing to do," wrote Maria on Facebook, reported CNN.

According to Mi艂oszek's mother, Monica, said that the operating funds needed reached US$383,000 or Rp. 5.5 billion. Some of the funds have been collected, only the rest. Maria also opened the auction price at US$51 thousand. The auction was won by Zabka, a Polish supermarket company, with a price of US $ 125 thousand.

"It is with pride that I give Zabka this medal, which for me is a symbol of struggle, belief and the effort to reach a dream despite many challenges," he wrote.

Unexpectedly, Zabka will later return the medal to Maria even though she has won

the auction. Zabka also gave his statement.

"We are very appreciative of how generous our Olympic athletes are. Therefore, we strongly support the fundraising efforts for Miloszek. We have also decided that the silver medal from the Tokyo Olympics will remain with Maria who has shown how extraordinary she is," the statement said. Zabka on Facebook
