My thought on Ronaldo's move to Juventus (Italy)

Today we are going to talk about Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent transfer to Juventus in Italy. So let’s go ahead!

Who is Cristiano Ronaldo?

Cristiano Ronaldo is a mega famous soccer player very well known around the world. In fact, you do not even need to be interested in soccer or sport to have heard of him. Just to show you an example, in 2016 he became the person from sports to reach the total of 200 million of fans on all social media combined ( 109.7 million Facebook fans, 49.6 million Instagram fans and 40.7 million Twitter fans). Ronaldo created his own brand called “CR7”, which produces many items such as underwears, perfumes etc … Ronaldo’s net worth is estimated to be around $400 million [2].

As for as Soccer goes, Ronaldo is considered to be one of the best soccer player in history. He started with Sporting Lisbon (Portugal) and rapidly transferred to Man United in 2003 (England) due to his incredible talent. There, he won all titles possible (Champion’s League, Barclays Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup etc ...) including the Ballon d’or which is the highest title a soccer player can win at an individual level. He then moved to Real Madrid (Spain) in 2009 where he also won all kinds of titles, including 4 Champion’s League and 4 Ballon d’or.

Ronaldo’s biggest rival is Lionel Messi, who is also considered to be one of the best soccer player of all time. Their rivalry and competition have pushed them throughout the years to push themselves beyond what was thought to be impossible. You can think of Ronaldo vs Messi as Federer vs Nadal in Tennis or as the Beatles vs the Rolling Stones in music. You will very frequently hear soccer fans debate whether Ronaldo or Messi is the best.

Now that I have explained who Ronaldo is, I will share with you what I think about his recent move to Juventus (Italy), but before that let me share with you some important facts that will help you better understand the context of this transfer. Ronaldo is 33, which is considered “old” in soccer age. He won everything possible with Real Madrid. Fiorentino Perez, The Real Madrid’s president did not want to renew his contract because he thought Ronaldo was in decline. Basically to him, if he was to renew the contract, that would have been an economical loss for Real Madrid because he would not have been able to sell Ronaldo for a huge price in a few years.

My thought on the transfer

Ronaldo is a massive player who is well known for his work ethic and taking very good care of himself. That is for instance why he’s had so few injuries throughout his career. The last season showed that he still plays a key role in big games, so there is no coincidence that he was the best scorer during the last champion’s league season or that he scored three goals against Spain during the recent world cup in Russia. On top of that, he has incredible leadership capabilities, he really is a really good leader on a team. Juventus had a very good team in the past 5 years but I think that they were missing a top scorer. To me, Higuain is not a top scorer as he has no (or very little) impact during big games. Now that they have Ronaldo, I clearly see them next year as a serious candidate for the Champion’s League. There is really no reason why they should not be, especially since their coach, Massimo Allegri is a mastermind in terms of tactics.

This move to Juventus is also good for Ronaldo because I think that he needed a new challenge, as he has won everything possible with Real Madrid. His objective is to be the best of all time and he wants to do everything to get to his goal. If he wins a champion’s league title with Juventus, that will make him even closer to his goal. Also, for Juventus this was an incredible deal as they will soon make a lot of money on the marketing aspect thanks to this transfer. On the other hand, I think that Real Madrid is going to have a bad season, since their previous coach (Zinedine Zidane) and their best player (Ronaldo) left. I think that their president Fiorentino Perez was a little too greedy.
