"McLaren deal with Mercedes is finalized"

The British racing team is fed up with Honda's tinkering which has been going on for three seasons now.

It's not a secret that Fernando Alonso has been looking to pursue a career outside of Formula 1, the bad results with the Honda powertrain are the main reason of these developments. After racing at the Indy 500 two weeks ago Alonso supposedly is looking at Indy as a viable option for next year and thus the next step in his career.

It's being said that McLaren have had talks with Mercedes about providing them engines for next season. A grand move because Mercedes has proven to be the team to beat when it comes to on-track performance with winning all titles since 2014.

A switch to the Mercedes engine will cost McLaren about $88mln. and it's being said that the deal will be announced before the summer break which will be after the Hungarian GP July 30th.

With that in mind McLaren will need to act quick to keep Alonso on board because his contract will end at the end of this season but with the Mercedes engine things might just turn for the better next year. Maybe just enough to keep the double champion in the McLaren seat.
