What is Boxing weight categories?

Not only are there too many boxing weight classes, none of them make any sense.

Basically:

There's heavyweight

Then there's a confusing patchwork of three dozen or so lighter categories all below 200 lbs.

That's crazy to me.

Crazy that every fight you've ever seen between actual, heavy muscular guys took place in one weight class.

And all the rest were a bunch of contests between different categories of average to small guys.

And I'm not just saying that because I'm a big guy and I'm not trying to diminish lighter dudes. But the average US man is about 200 lbs. And yea we're fatter than most places, but still.

If you're an American boxing enthusiast, chances are you're watching one, maybe two weight classes with competitors bigger than you, then a whole alphabet network of smaller categories.

Do we really need that?

Tyson Fury outweighed Deontay Wilder by forty pounds and it showed.

If they can do it, why do we need to differentiate between dudes who weigh 126 instead of 134?

Surely there's a better way to streamline weight categories into something that actually makes sense.

It just doesn't make sense for there to be like two dozen different world championship weight classes below 200 lbs and exactly one above 200 lbs.
