• Chelsea produced a spectacular display in both legs but were utterly undone by magical Messi who punished every mistake the premier league champions made. After playing out a 1-1 draw at home, it was always going to be difficult to win in the Camp Nou. This time around, Chelsea started with a recognised striker and Hazard was deployed in his favourite position with William occupying the right flank. In contrast to the first leg of the tie, Hazard did have plenty of the ball against Valverade's team but his efforts despite the defeat was no match compared to that of Messi who was a constant threat with the ball all night.

  Obviously, Hazard hasn't reached the standards set by Ronaldo and Messi who makes the difference in the biggest stage. Against PSG, Ronaldo came through with 3 goals in both legs and the goals were vital in Madrids qualification. Messi did the same against the blues, scoring 3 and assisting 1 in both legs as Barcelona dumped Chelsea out of the competition. Hazard is a wonderful player, arguably the most influential player in the Premier league but in other to be mentioned in the same breath as Ronaldo and Messi, he has to do more for his team in the matches of this magnitude.

• After the first leg of the round of 16 matches played 3weeeks ago, it was looking possible for a the 5 Premier league teams to qualify to the next round. City and Liverpool had huge wins with United, Chelsea and Tottenham played 0-0, 1-1 and 2-2 respectively. Tottenham in particular played an amazing game away to Juventus with many soccer fans and pundits speaking highly of several Tottenham players especially Dembele who produced a maestro performance against the Italian side in the middle of the park. The second leg produced a similar performance only for a 6 minutes magic from the Italian team shocked them and killed off their moral.

  The game ended 2-1 to Juventus and that ended their champions league fairytale for 2018.
  Chelsea suffered a similar fate in the hands of the Spanish side as their flaws were exposed to the public. United's exit was shocking as many tipped them to progress ahead of Sevilla but they were dumped by the Spanish side in their own backyard.
