Thank you! It's still going strong, although if you're partial to Steem, Hive wouldn't be where you'd be at. It's the native currency for the game now after the "Great Divide" lol. Some of us still use both so we post on both so we can share with all who care. Thanks for the engagement. :)

I am not on Hive, though I contemplated joining. I just don't think I could handle yet another account with all the work I have going on these days.

Are you saying you can use Hive currency in Splinterlands? That would be pretty amazing.

Well, it seems that most community-oriented projects that were built on Steem originally, moved to hive. This even includes @steembasicincome which I've been a long time fan and supporter of as well as user. Universal Basic Income is true freedom in my eyes, as in most countries you must pay your way to have basic necessities which in my mind is slavery. Debatable to any degree, for sure, so that's my opinion and I don't expect the world to see eye to eye with me. Point being, it still uses the moniker and handle it got from here, but to enroll you and another account, they only now accept Hive. Your Steem can be put onto the Hive-Engine through the accounts still available for trading/liquidity for anyone opting into Hive from Steem. (They didn't want to isolate and cut off all gateways/bridges in case of later adoption by people changing their minds or wanting to participate in both.)

Splinterlands and many Hive-Engine tokens moved over, Steem-Engine now seems abandoned so the second layer Cryptonomics over here was taken over by Justin Sun's TRX or Tron currency. That's now the only layer of currency if Steem-Engine truly is gone, which I've been checking consistently and it's said something or other about catching up to the chain and withdrawals or whatever are disabled during. It's been days so who knows. Reliability is definitely less than Hive-Engine and although I think that's intentional, it's a bit inconvenient to have methods like that used against those who weren't part of the big divide or didn't or couldn't fully grasp the reasoning behind all of it or why Justin Sun was such a bad choice to have leading Steem. That's all history now, as the impact has been had and the division is finalized. Hive has more rewards potential for sure, as their whole selling point was the strength of a real community and not subservience for rewards, to larger stake holders. The freedom to earn more without basically begging or waiting patiently for long periods of time to build traction. It worked, I'll say. The projects are strong and the payouts are far more than Steem has provided and more consistently paid out across posts/comments based on your level of true interaction with other individuals. I tend to be an introvert except when it comes to women... lol... so I tend to steer away from building large followings and groups for support. I try to diversify my assets and earn with them how I feel is morally and ethically reasonable.

TL;DR

  • Hive is better for earnings and the community is more English speaking and the projects involved on there are doing much better than anything on Steem that would have relevancy to functionality. Most people who were OG Steem, are now on Hive and collaborating on larger, more complex projects that will add more value to the overall Hive economy, once completed. The DAOs are doing more for added value across the board, instead of individuals/exclusive groups.

My suggestion, because it's widely accepted from what I can tell, is to post on both, the same post. Copy/Paste style and adjust tags based on what you'd like to try to earn or the relevancy of your content. (Art tags for art, Finance for finance, etc.) Just decide which chain you hold your heart closer to and post there first, so that it will get the priority in SEO (Search Engine Optimization, the thing that makes search engines show more accurate results. If time based, whatever is posted first will show first.) and if you don't really care, just post to whichever one and then the other. It could potentially double your earnings if you earn the same, or, if the community appreciates you and is more receptive and engaging with you, you could potentially earn a lot more than double. Say you earn $0.10 on something here, you may earn a few bucks for it over there, that potential would mean well beyond doubling. It's possible, but who knows, art and music and finance are all very hot topics that are still widely discussed/shared. :) Good luck in whatever you choose to do!

Also, the Hive-Engine has the base currencies for Splinterlands now, yes. SPT, DEC, and SPS are all on Hive-Engine and you buy them with SWAP.HIVE which is pegged Hive on the sidechain.

@scratched-burnt even if you only played briefly, if it was a while ago, you probably had to buy booster packs/starter cards. Those are now actually worth quite a substantial amount even if it's not super epic or rare. I have some that I found out were worth upwards of $200 on the monster markets they have over there! The bottom of it was a few bucks a pop for the old cards, but the mid-range where most of the cards sat valued at, was around $40-80 still! So for spending about 20-40$ in Hive back in the day to get started or whatever it was, now one card alone profited me and the rest was just excess! I think you can check your Hive account info about that using peakmonsters website, if you need help I can help you out with all of it. In addition to that, if you had Steem before Hive forked off, you have 100% of what you had when it forked at whatever point in time. If you haven't touched Hive at all, that's literally sitting there waiting for you and it's been earning APR% for whatever you had staked/invested. :)

Something well worth looking into! The fact of the matter is, Hive forked from Steem, so by being on Steem, you were instantly already on Hive with whatever stake/holdings you had on Steem. Say you had 100 SP, 100Steem and 100SBD, you would have had the same amount in Hive, at the time it forked. That would be sitting there as Hive, HBD, and HP, waiting on you, using the same keys you use here on Steem to do things. If you have your keys here, you have your keys there. That's the beauty of the fork. :)

Again, if you need help, let me know. You seem intelligent for sure, but always a good reminder, be careful with keys. Don't share them with anyone, even me if I offer help, I only will guide you in where to do what, never ask for them. Lol. :P

Oh nevermind I think you're new to Steem :P
That would mean there's no Hive for you there, although, I'd be willing to send you some/delegate and vote on your content if you did join, so there's that. @scratched-burnt

Wow, thanks for taking the time to give such a thorough response! I am rather new here on steemit, but my fiancé and joint account holder @jae5086 joined steemit back in 2016 so he would have been around for the fork so perhaps we'll check into it from his old account. If I were to join Hive, I don't think I would cross-post/copy+paste.

I have been doing well and received a lot of help from folks in the World of Xpilar community and cross-posting is definitely against the rules there, but that doesn't mean I can't share the same art that I've created. I would simply make sure the wording was different and that should satisfy everyone. I do love the idea of more English speakers. @jae5086 thought when we started this account that it seemed like a lot less English speakers, particularly those from the US, than he remembered from his brief time on the platform years back. Perhaps Hive is where they all went, haha.

On universal basic income, that's actually something I had thought about during the last US presidential election cycle, as one of the candidates was a supporter. My position is that it will be necessary eventually as AI and robotics continue to advance and slowly eat up more and more jobs. We'll simply hit a point (I believe) where there are not enough jobs for people. This, coupled with the consolidation of wealth that is likely to result, I think will force that issue. Not sure it would be in my lifetime though, as I don't expect to see it any time soon.

On Splinterlands, now I am going to have to try to find my old account. I know it was a year or so ago, but I don't think I bought any packs, just the spellbook that you had to buy to get started. I'm pretty sure all packs were sold out and a new expansion at the time was weeks from launching.
