Splinterlands: Is owning summoners worth it? 🧞

in #splinterlands5 years ago (edited)

Hi there,
I was thinking to different deck growing stretegies in @splinterlands (for those that like me are out of cash 💸💸💸 and must evaluate carefully when and where put the money).

Onestly, I was initially impressed by summoner's prices in splinterlands.

They are by far the most expensive cards in the game! Let's do some example seeing mean regular prices for different editions and rarities:

EditionRarityMonstersSummonersRatio
BetaRare0.27 $/BCX1.40 $/BCX~5x
BetaEpic1.04 $/BCX1.99 $/BCX~2x
BetaLegendary5.33 $/BCX17.88 $/BCX~3x
UntamedRare0.12 $/BCX0.53 $/BCX~4x

Consequently, summoners are the most risky investment: burning them is not an option (DEC received are crumbs)

So why do summoners are so expensive? Obviously they:

  • Allow access to splinter monsters
  • Improve monsters stats (except for "silenced" summosers (Beta epic), that infact are the cheapest one)

But we have a fact: after untamed edition, summoners price is dropped.
I think one explanation is because is now possible to have a flexible single-splinter deck usable in almost all game modes, with all kind of attack and a good range of abilities. Less demand ➡️ lower prices.

So here is the questions:

  • Is owning summoners worth it?
  • Would it be better to rent them, or just focus on a single splinter?

Any opinion is welcome 😊😊

Sort:

Need them even if high cost. No use if you have max level monsters but not max summoners. Check out rental market for my affortable choices of renting higher level summoners.

I think because renting is so easy that once people find out about that they stop spending the $ to level those up. So... for anyone who CAN level them up, they totally should...potentially, the could be in high demand.

I'm old school though, I like owning my summoners (not that I have very high leveled ones really).
