Can you still earn profit by joining the Splinterlands now?

Splinterlands is a blockchain based trading card game. Unlike many other, the most popular being Gods Unchained, in Splinterlands you can earn tradeable digital assets in form of cards and crypto currency tokens by just playing and completing daily quests. Buying booster packs to up your collection is possible but you don’t have to in order to advance your deck or grow the value of your collection.

Two series of booster packs (Alpha and Beta) have already sold out and we are now in what can be considered the third season (Untamed). Since alpha cards became playable the rewards earned by playing had to be cut several times in order to prevent abuse. The question now is, whether new players can still earn by playing or whether the goldrush is over and new players only feed the existing whales?

This question may be especially worth answering as the initial (one time) investment you have to make for a Summoner’s Spellbook is 10 USD. You can try the gameplay for free but in order to unlock rewards a Spellbook purchase is required. Considering this initial investment the question about earning a ROI (Return on Investment) mainly needs to answer if it is still possible to earn back these 10 USD.

I wanted to try this for myself and so I used a spare Spellbook code I owned from the last kickstarter event to create a newbie account. The account is called @kick-starter and was created roughly two-three months ago in February 2020 (some time after the Untamed season launched). I would not put any external investment into this account except for the Spellbook purchase.

I tried to complete my daily quests which took between 15 and 30 minutes of playing per day. Other than that not much has been done with this account (you could earn more by continuing to play but it gets less profitable after completing the quest). As of today the valuation of the @kick-starter account is this:

As you can see my card collection surpassed the 10 USD value which equaled the initial investment. I could sell all the cards and get out even (with a small surplus). Or I could (and will) continue playing and every card I get from now on is pure profit.

I should mention that the rewards I got were mediocre and it might be well possible to break even sooner (lucky peeps may get one of those super rare reward cards valued 50 USD and more just from the daily rewards).

So, the answer is YES. You can still join the Splinterlands now and come out with a profit quite easily. It might not make you rich (but it might still earn you a nice some on the long run, the game is still in its beginnings after all) but it is fun to play and earns you a small crypto income. What more could you ask for?

Make sure to join the game using a referral link. Purchasing a Spellbook after signing up through a referral link will get you an instant free card (randomly selected, potentially worth up to 100 USD). You can use my link if you are interested: https://steemmonsters.com?ref=handtalk5

As a referrer I will also get a free card upon your purchase and am willing to gift that one to you as well to make your start in the Splinterlands a little easier. (Comment here with your Splinterlands account name after your purchase to make the claim and I’ll send you the card.)
