Splinterlands | Angelic Mandarin Challenge
Cards with the Triage Ability are interesting as most of them have a low mana cost which makes them more useful in battles with lower mana at the same time making them less efficient since the monsters they have to heal generally will have less health meaning also a lower heal. Also in order for it to be effective, opponents need to target monsters that are not in the first place (or use blast). If this is done correctly and efficiently more than 1 monster will attack those most of the time directly killing them which makes a backline heal less useful. I do see the combination of the Angelic Mandarin and the Wave Brood as a valid one but I don't have that last card leveled up yet.
Since I'm letting Archmage play for me right now which allows me to somewhat have a break from the game for the first time in 3+ years, I looked for a match where the Angelic Mandarin was used. Since I didn't find one I booted up a manual game which happened to give me game rules where it was very much suited to use the card even though I don't think it was optimal as the Triage ability had no real use.
The game rules in Wild Gold League only allowed a maximum of 4 mana cards with the 58 max mana and Stamped ability being neglectable as there is only 1 card with 4 mana or less with that ability. I played the Kelya as summoner which is extremely powerful with these game rules given the extra armor it gives. The Spineback Turtle was my main tank followed by the Electric Eels which provided good speed and the blast ability for extra damage. The Parasitic Growth in 3rd place had the function to grow in health and be healed by the Crustacean King while the Angelic Mandarin had the purpose to potentially keep some of the backline monsters alive. I used to like the Kulu Swimhunter more but from experience, the Medhampir is just better despite having less speed and 2 ranged attack instead of 3. Since armor and heal are key in the current meta, the Cripple Ability is worth a lot and the Life Leech works well with the Triage ability of the Angelic Mandarin.
It turned out into a fairly easy win mostly showing how the Scavenger & Life Leech abilities are really powerful abilities to have with these game rules. The Angelic Mandarin switched with the Pirate Captain which would have given the 3 Melee monsters each +1 attack would have been more optimal.
