Ego vs. Pride
I feel compelled to make this post because I got into a discussion with someone about the difference between Pride and Ego. It was interesting how each person's perception can deviate so much. We frequentyly confuse and misuse these words on daily basis so I thought I'd clarify it.
Main Difference – Ego vs Pride
The words ego and pride are very hard to differentiate since it is so close and interrelated. If you ask anyone the difference between the two words, he/she will most likely stutter in thoughts, which is why this post will highlight the small differences between ego and pride. The main difference between ego and pride is that ego is related to self-importance which can turn to arrogance whereas pride is related to being satisfied.
Ego
Many people think of ego as self-respect. This is true in some instances, but it can often lead to arrogance. Ego is a feeling of being better than everyone else. It starts in the mind but has no connection with reality. An example of this would be a football player taking credit for all their victories rather than crediting it to team effort.
Ego creates a barrier of developing a positive relationship with another person. It also stops one from saying sorry so his/her ego doesn't take a hit. Ego is self-assuring and you add to it every time when you think you are better than the person next to you. A big ego can be detrimental to a person's relationship with others as no one likes to be around people who only thinks of me, myself and I.
Pride
Pride is a feeling of satisfaction stemming from what one has achieved. It is a sense of achievement that is healthy and good for a person and encourages him to be better. A person who takes pride in the quality of his/her work is never settles for mediocrity and always strives to do better.
Pride is a feeling of joy. It is a sense of accomplishment that tends to bring humbleness to a person. You must have noticed how modest those who achieve everything in their field become. Pride gives a swollen heart and ego gives a swollen head. Pride gives nothing but modesty. While ego is self-admiration, pride is self-satisfaction.
I think that about sums it up on the meanings of the 2 words, if you have questions or comments please leave them below :-P
