Thoughts about "The Parable of the Ten Virgins"

in #spirituality6 years ago (edited)

In the "Parable of the Ten Virgins", the oil in the lamps of the 5 wise virgins relates to the Waters of Life (i.e what flows from the Holy Spirit).

Apart from the parables, Jesus' words were literal. The Holy Spirit is indeed real and can only be received through Jesus Christ. Accept no other substitutes.

We can't get to God through anything we do, however good we are or however good we try to be. God's gift is completely free for everyone and cannot be forced on anyone. It opens us up to a new life and a living relationship with God -- here and in the life after.

When we live in the Holy Spirit, who glorifies Jesus and no other, sin no longer has a hold on us. We are made free from sin and many things supernaturally.

Don't be like the 5 foolish virgins who stay asleep rather than collect oil for their lamps. They're caught off guard when the moment to use these lamps arrives! They're too late and the door they seek to go through is shut in their face.

Using our oil-filled lamp is the ONLY way to follow and KNOW Jesus Christ.

Unfortunately, these days, most (whether Christians or not) are not heeding warnings of those with oil in their lamps. Don't be like the foolish virgins.

Matthew 25:1-13

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

While the bridegroom tarried (waited), they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

John 4:13-14

Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
