Not Above, Not Below, But THROUGH: Grounded Spirituality
Eastern spiritual pathways say that, if we want to attain enlightment, we must give up our earthly attachments and let go of our fear.
Western spiritual pathways say that, if we want to attain eternal life and be with God in Heaven, we must not give in to our earthly desires and sin.
What if our earthly desires and sin are not a side-track, a dead-end street, but a signal, a clue to those under-developed parts of us that need refinement and purification, and therefore - need more than less of our attention?
What if we have been given only the ending of the story, the result (letting go of the attachment, life without sin) - but not the pathway itself?
What if the pathway is not above the illusion - but through illusion (of right and wrong, sin and bliss, fear and love.......duality itself)?
What if our path is not to transcend our attachments (or ourselves [the famous “ego”], for that matter) but to dive deeply into them and see what they are made of? What experiences had shaped them? What emotions they hold? What are the basic needs in the basis of our attachments?
And, mostly important, how can we truly satisfy these basic needs without harming oneself or another?
When we look deeply into the nature of our attachments, we come to terms with our basic humanity. We accept our human nature, and we bow down to it.
We bless our sins. We bless our attachments. We bless our fears.
And then, true spirituality is born, from the notion that being oneself is indeed holy.
And then, we bring Heaven to Earth.
