Soulmate? Twinflame? Codependency? – New-New Age Spirituality and its Dangers to Your Health

New age spirituality can be such a let down. Nothing against the culture itself. Maybe we simply need a new term. Like post new age or new-new age.

The new age movement from the 20th century was all about learning ancient knowledge. No way criticising that. People started reading old scriptures like the Indian Bhagavad Gita or the Tibetan Canon, they started exploring old sites, asking questions from a fresh new point of view, changing the paradigm of society to a bigger focus on psychological and physiological health. Not only do I have nothing against it. I support it. It's what I do with my own life. But when it comes to modern-day spirituality, we are faced with lots of unbased information that can often do more harm than it helps. Some of it is simply because people earn money with their disinformation, however, most of it is some lazy kind of half-ass-spirituality. The modern age version kind of. The superficial Apple spirituality, so to say, a product without any autonomy opposed to the Linux version which would be to learn a lot about it before you're capable of using it.

Today this scene is packed with people that don't feel any need to back up their believes and claims. They believe whatever makes them feel comfortable. And again, there's nothing wrong with focussing on feeling comfortable. But what if your unbased beliefs cause you harm, make you suffer, trouble your heart, mind, and soul. What if what you think makes you feel comfortable actually increases your pain and keeps you in abusive cycles that you need to overcome?

The postmodern new age idea that I am finding most dangerous is this:

Twinflames, Soulmates and Karmic Relationships

You only have one twin flame, many karmic relations and a couple of soulmates. That's what she says! One is the exact mirror of yourself (twin flame), the other is someone you hurt in a past life or they hurt you in a past life and the relationship needs to be reconciled or evened out in this life (karmic rs) and the last group are those who come from the same tribe you do (soulmates). Which would now lead us to another area I shake my head about which are categories for people like starseeds, lightworkers, indigo children, and so on and so on and so on … The list doesn't end and keeps getting updated by modern-day spiritual influencers on instagrim and assbook.

But based on what exactly?

That's the science to it. And this is while all those explanations differ slightly or sometimes even contradict each other. And this itself might not be a problem. Why not be creative, why not learn to accept polarity and conflicting concepts? Sure, if you're healthy and aware of what you're doing. Why not? But let us now come to the part where people are suffering and keeping themselves in abusive relationships. All for the sake of this crazy postmodern idea.

A whole world of videos to fool yourself about what someone else is thinking about you.
