Perhaps you know people who take a back seat in life. They may be giving and helpful but do not want the limelight. Often they are behind the scenes. They are the meek. Some may take more than their share in life and end up being a doormat but are they weak?

Many of you know that my sweetheart, Marcia, who passed away 2 years ago was very humble and meek. She did so many things out of a selfless love and gratitude. Her children thought this was a weakness of hers. She would do so much that they though she could be taken advantage of. Later their thoughts changed as they discovered this as a strength.

From meekness comes gratitude.

The bible addresses this. Mathew 5:5 states "Great blessings belong to those who are humble. They will be given the land God promised." A more common interpretation would be "Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth." It has been said that meekness is perfect strength under control. Speaking softly but having a large impact on others. The meek understand gratitude.

I have often thought that humility and meekness is a wonderful quality in a spouse. They are your partner working along beside you making it happen. They are the team player who has that quietness yet achieving so much.

The meek are often givers and in their selflessness, they bring out gratitude in other who remember their kindness. That same kindness is returned when the meek are down and out. That may be what it means when they will inherit the earth. The meek initiate a gift that keeps on giving.
