I understand the trepidation many will have while reading this, but truth is truth, and whether we like it or not, it will eventually come to light. I hope you can appreciate that I shed this light with love.

There will be proof of popular belief based on art and fear as well as actual fact based on etymology. Feel free to research. I am 100% confident in the veracity of the contents here.

The name "Lucifer" makes its appearance in the fourteenth chapter of the Old Testament book of Isaiah, at the twelfth verse, and nowhere else:

"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!"

"O Lucifer" was used to express "O shining one", and not the name of a biblical character, and certainly not Satan. Its own simple context clearly shows this.

An evil character named Lucifer did not exist in Christianity until one became popularized by the poet John Milton in his masterpiece "Paradise Lost" in 1667. This was art entertainment; not gospel.

So how did the word lucifer get into the bible, even for that one simple passage?

This word comes from Jerome's Latin Vulgate translation. He translated the Hebrew word "הֵילֵל" (shining one), pronounced "helel", which was lower case initialed, signifying that it was not a name of a character, pronounced "helel", to "lucifer".

Was Jerome in error? Not at all, because in Latin during those days, "lucifer" actually meant Venus as a morning star. Isaiah was using this metaphor for a bright light. Therefore, Lucifer wasn't equated with Satan until centuries later. Jerome wasn't in error. Later Christians were in equating "Lucifer" with "Satan" merely because of artists, and not the actual gospel.

So "Lucifer" is nothing more than an ancient Latin name for a morning star, a bringer of light, which can be confusing for Christians who also identify Christ himself as the morning star. Lets not forget thatJesus refers to himself as the morning star in Revelation 22:16: "I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star."

In that single verse by Isaiah in the Old Testament using the word lucifer, it is nothing but a taunt song. This passage refers first to the fall of the earthly king of Babylon; not Satan, the devil, or any angel or entity that fell from Heaven.

So there. We now know that in the religious teachings, Lucifer is not an evil character.

And what about this!

What if I told you that a well respected Christian Bishop was named Lucifer, and was elevated to a saint in the church?

If Lucifer was truly believed to be Satan, Im sure he wouldnt have been made a saint, or even allowed his high position in the church. Christianity, unfortunately took a turn for the worse in the 4th century, and Bishop St. Lucifer of Cagliaria was in the front lines of the fight against the invading Roman horde, but they lost, and thus was birthed the Roman Catholic Church, which took a beloved faith and turned it into an organized forced state religion that became very political.

So why do I share this? WHat good does this knowledge bring anyone?

"The fact that millions of people share the same vices does not make these vices virtues, the fact that they share so many errors does not make the errors to be truths, and the fact that millions of people share the same form of mental pathology does not make these people sane."
~ Erich Fromm

  • We have many great esoteric writers who have stayed true to the etymology and respect the phonetic origins of words. They have been great studies of history, philosophy and spirituality, and often use scary words like "lucifer", which agitate the ignorant who are easily triggered at words and concepts they dont understand, rather than paying attention to the context to find true meaning and intention of the author.

When these writers like Pike, Blavatsky and Levi, refer to Lucifer, it is not about some evil being. But again, people are triggered by words they have heard over and over by Hollywood films and decades of bad preaching. They have no understanding or respect for history and real liberating spirituality because they are stuck in a prison of words.

  • Christianity is under attack today, and we risk losing much ancient spiritual knowledge simply because modern Christians do not know how to interpret their Bibles. Modern Christians look crazy with their overzealous fear fueled ill-knowledge, and give Atheists easy material to sell the world as a case against religion.

The Bible is not something you can just read and expect to understand. One must read it in respect to previous versions. It takes work and dedication. It is meant for the few willing to go out of their way to understand. That is how the scriptures become illuminated, and people can truly embody the philosophies and words of the great prophets of ALL RELIGIONS.

With love,
Doc

I sually dont like to refer to Wikipedia for knowledge, but they did a pretty solid job on the subject of Lucifer.

I've thought up a whole theology surrounding this one! :D
Premise 1) the idea is based on non-dual monotheism.
Premise 2) Jesus and Lucifer are the first principles of division of oneness into binary form. The male/female binary. Jesus, the male principle, deals with all truth, beauty, and goodness on this earth and always has and always will. Lucifer, The Left Hand of God, deals with every crap choice humans make! She's why life can be a bitch! But, and here is the rub, they work together in this vast stage of consciousness entertainment to bring all into the knowledge of the divine one.....
Premise 3) The Golden Rule is the 'code' they use to decide who deals with who. If you DON"T use unnecessary coercion and exploitation in your dealings with people and other life forms then The Right Hand of God will lead you into perfection. On the other hand, if upon gaining conscientiousness, one decides to exploit and use coercion to gain one's desires then one will have to deal with her......
Get it?
I should add: those who control religion and the books of religion always chose her through their own greed and avarice and that is why the books are false and inaccurate! She gave them what they wanted: power....

Had been thinking about similar concept this x-mas :)

It's a Quasi-Christian Gnostic/Judaic(alternative) 'hypothesis'/metaphysical speculation...

interesting, but too complicated in my opinion...
how can God have two hands if Jesus and Lucifer are the first principles of division?
and where is the holy trinity?
i don't know if i truly understood you...
is this like the yin and yang principle?

Hi, I'm not getting why that is complicated...One divided itself into two.....The right was called logos/Kristos (male energy) and the left was called Sophia (female energy)...The first Aeons in Gnostic cosmology....
However, anything anyone says on this topic is speculation as no one anywhere can prove ANY metaphysics....For myself, I dismiss the irrational, the illogical, and the historically inaccurate ( literal scriptures)...
FWIW: even historical Judaism correctly understood Satan to be an agent of God and in no way in conflict with God.....

Isis and Eras / Order and Chaos - the great teachers...Thy Rod and Thy Staff

No one is touching this one. Touchy subject?

I agree with you on lucifer bro. I imagine the masons would teach this at the higher levels. The devil as a concept is pretty dumb in the first place.

Summary

The reason Lucifer has been understood to be a proper name of the Devil has to do with the Latin translation of the Hebrew term Helel. This word was understood, by some, to be a proper name for the king of Babylon. It means "light bearer," or Lucifero in Latin. The Latin title became a popular name for this evil figure. When the King James translators rendered the Hebrew term into English, they kept the popular term "Lucifer" for the Devil.

We may not know the original meaning of the word helel that the author used for that certain context.

Helel means " a shining one". This is well known.

It just seems that the authors intended meaning for "helel" is debatable. I dont know what i believe about that personally.

Traditionally, Lucifer was the name of the Angel (possibly a chrubim) who rebelled against the beatific vision. After freely choosing to leave heaven, he took a whole lot of angels with him and set up shop downvoting creation.

Thanks for sharing your research and understanding of this matter docdelux. I personally am not that familiar with the Bible except for what I learned in theology class back in high school, which was far from investigative schooling, so I appreciate these little snippits of insight.

that shed some light on the matter :)
it's always a pleasure to read something about common misconceptions
i've got some interpretations of mine about this character, but haven't done enough research for making a stable backbone.
thank you for your research

you people give lucifer, a total nobody alot power in your collective conciousness

Hi @docdelux, I enjoyed reading your article and will check out more of your work. I have also found a number of translation errors in what is the traditional Christian dogma so I can add Lucifer to that list. I've been living in Peru for a number of years , though will be coming to the states soon to work on a project soon. Have noticed the name "Lucero" used here which means the morning star or Venus.

I look at the idea of Lucifer as referring to Satan to be part of the Cosmic Whole, waving a flag saying look over here, this is where we need to bring the Light. Thus Lucifer the bringer of light saying, "Hey, we've got a shadow of separation here. The ego is casting its shadow. Come on, bring in the Light." Your examination of the mistaken translation is great. Thanks.

I'll mention a few words that I have found, you may well be familiar with these. "Elohim" which is used in Genesis in recounting the creation of the firmament and all else and translated as God in English and other languages too, is plural and thus properly translated as the Gods. It's usage includes the angels and also Goddess. Thus creation is really a group effort of the Divine.

The word translated as hell actually means the grave or tomb. "Christ" of course means anointed in Greek and refers to Illumination or Awakening and is a shared status with all who are Awakened to the reality of Oneness of God, which we all are to be without question. Again when Jesus is teaching about prayer in Mathew, the word "krypto" is used and translated as secret, as in pray to God who is in secret, however another translation of "krypto"is "inside", thus "pray to God who is inside".

Obviously there are many more. I'll be checking out more of your posts and am following. I'm a newbie in Steemit also so you can check me out here: https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@johncongdon/hear-ye-hear-ye-read-all-about-it-old-fogey-joins-steemit . Haven't posted much yet, still looking to learn the ropes but have a lot of ideas to post. Take care and be well.
