How to get lucid dreams - some practical methods

in #spiritual5 years ago (edited)

Some people get curious about lucid dreaming, but when they try to get into it, nothing happens! No wonder - most of us have lost the ability to have lucid dreams just like we lost many other “superhuman” abilities (like telepathy, super-developed intuition, or even telekinesis). Because of that loss, acquiring even 1/1000 of our potential now requires A LOT OF hard work, and most of the time - radical changes to our thinking processes, physical activities, and “lifestyle”.

But there are simple things and tricks everyone can use right here, right now - no need to join some “sect”, sell your property, become Buddhist, Wiccan, Christian, or Satanist, divorce your husband/wife, or fly to Tibet and live in the monastery for 20 years...

What we need is just

  1. Listening to our hearts and bodies
  2. Being aware and flexible
  3. Practicing again, again, and again

I will share two little tricks that can help get lucid dreams... or maybe at least clear, unusual, vivid, interesting dreams. These simple methods will be especially useful for those who use “sleep rituals” - always sleeping in the same place, in familiar pajamas, and at the same time.

First - go to sleep in a different location and position in your house. Sleep on a couch in a different room or on the floor in your bedroom, forget the blanket, fall asleep in a dress or in your business suit... If this seems too hard - just switch the direction you sleep in. Put your pillow where your feet usually are and lay down that way. Use a body position different from that you are used to. For instance, if you normally sleep on your side, now lay on your back.

The trick is to make your body and brain fall asleep in a familiar environment, but in a totally different position.

Another trick - fall asleep in the middle of the day or at the time when you never normally sleep.

DO NOT wait for the dream to come!

I do not guarantee that these methods will work for everyone or right away, but it doesn’t hurt to try )

Lucid dreams are an amazing feat and are indeed tough at first to get your head in. There's a popular technique that I use where you wake up in the middle of the night and keep your body calm enough to fall back asleep, but with your mind focusing on all of the background visuals that come into view.

You want to look at the patterns and thoughts, but not stress yourself paying attention to them. And after a while you feel a sudden quietness and those images begin to envelop your visual space until well, you're in :)

By the way, can you tell me if the banner presented below needs work or not? I'm trying out something new...

Yes, good method also, thanks for sharing this ) I also tried Carlos Castaneda methods described in his books, one of them trying to find your hands (or another easy to find, familiar object) in your dream. The banner looks good, it is simple to read and states the point clearly. I'd probably click ))

Oh did that work? And awesome nice to know. :)

Yes, it worked, but not at the first try.
I actually just registered there, on your forum. But I couldn’t fill out the steemit username field because it doesn’t allow using “-“

Aha, that's been noted, thank you!

A lot of techniques take more than one go to do. I think we tend to think of ourselves as the ultimate master of our bodies, yet we play so close to the edge of our awareness that I've had people tell me they blacked out and forgot they were ever doing a technique

Setting an alarm for 94 minutes in a day time nap will wake you up right after you have had an REM cycle, which is when you are most likely dreaming. I find that this is a sure fire way to recall a day time nap dream.
I am going to wear tuxedos to sleep more often now.

have you watched the Leo Decaprio movie Inception?
It took me a couple times to watch the whole thing back in the day, but I remember they said you should never tell anyone what your reality checking totem mechanism is. I wonder if you agree with this? do you keep the methods with witch you check reality in a dream a secret from others?
I sort of do, but just because I like that kind of magical thinking.

Haha! Even if it doesn't work it's still fun to try)
Yes, good point for experimenters... I usually sleep for 1.5 - 2 hours in a row and then wake up, and I remember my dreams every time.
