Un buceador llamado Ahmed Gabr alcanzó una profundidad de 332 metros en el Mar Rojo, estableciendo un nuevo récord mundial. Es algo fascinante imaginar que un hombre pueda sumergirse tres cuadras debajo del mar. En Chile, para comparar, la Gran Torre Santiago mide 300 metros y consta de 64 pisos.

A diver named Ahmed Gabr reached a depth of 332 meters (1089 ft) at the Red Sea, establishing a new world record. It's fascinating that a man can dive three blocks under the sea. In Chile, as comparison, the Gran Torre Santiago measures 300 meters and it consists of 64 floors.

¿Qué sucede si se desciende más? La presión del agua aumenta terriblemente y, en el caso de los tanques de oxígeno, eso significa que el aire se vuelve tóxico para el buceador. Por eso, en el caso de Ahmed Gabr, requirió de 60 tanques de oxígeno en una fórmula con el nitrógeno, para evitar los efectos de la intoxicación.

What happens if you go further? The pressure of the water incredibly rises and, in the case of oxygen tanks, that means the air gets toxic for the diver. That's why Ahmed Gabr required 60 tanks of oxygen in a formula with nitrogen to avoid the effects of intoxication.

332 metros es un logro sorprendente. Sin embargo, el fondo del óceano oculta secretos sólo al alcance de los más sofisticados submarinos a miles de metros de profundidad. En Oceanía, la isla de Guam tiene uno de los lugares más misteriosos del planeta. Llamado la fosa de las Marianas, posee una profundidad de 11000 (once mil) metros.

332 meters is an incredible achievement. However, the bottom of the ocean hides secrets only within reach of the most sofisticated submarines at a depth of thousands of meters. In Oceania, the island of Guam has one of the most mysterious places of the planet. Called the Mariana Trench, it has a depth of 11000 (eleven thousand) meters.

En el siglo XIX, este lugar atrajo el interés de un grupo de exploradores comenzando una historia de expediciones e intentos constantes de llegar hasta el final y que concluyó en 2012 cuando James Cameron realizó el primer descenso en solitario hasta el lugar más profundo de la tierra. In the XIX century, this place attracted interest from a group of explorers starting a history of expeditions and constant attempts to reach the end and it concluded in 2012 when James Cameron made the first solo descent to the deepest place on Earth. At the end, I'll leave a link with the story, it really is truly fascinating.

Proceso - Process

Para esta ilustración probé una de las formas de pintar con acuarelas que nunca había usado. Consiste en aplicar las capas de pintura una sobre la otra sin esperar a que se seque y dejar que los colores se vayan formando. Es bastante interesante y acelera muchísimo el proceso.

For this illustration I tried the "wet on wet" technique, one way of painting with watercolor that I've never tried before. It consists in applying washes of paint over without waiting for it to dry, letting the colors mixing. It's quite interesting and it surely speeds up the process.
