El actor y director Sergio Castellito, adapta una novela escrita por Margaret Manzzantini (su esposa) que se convirtió en un triunfo editorial en Italia.
La película gira en torno a Gemma, una mujer que vive una perturbadora historia de amor en Sarajevo de la que nace un niño. Estando allí, recibirá una terrible llamada: el padre de su hijo, ha fallecido, por lo que tendrá que salir de la ciudad para siempre sin mirar atrás. Años después decidirá emprender un viaje a las raíces de su historia, para que su hijo pueda despedirse de su padre, también para que recupere la memoria perdida, los recuerdos que no pudo tener. Cuando ambos lleguen, serán muchos los secretos que tendrán que descubrir, muchas las revelaciones.
Una bella y dura película, impregnada de dulzura y pasión, plagada de derrota y fatalismo. Nos muestra la bella Italia pero también lo crudo de Sarajevo; donde se vive el presente pero sobrevolando a cada instante al pasado, aquel que te marcó, que te hizo ser quien eres ahora. Se reviven recuerdos, se cumple el sueño de una vida de una manera jamás imaginada. Se puede ver cómo se destruye todo alrededor en una guerra. Se amará profundamente y de la manera más brutal que puede existir y será correspondido. Nos daremos cuenta que el amor se acaba, que nada es para siempre, para dar cuenta más tarde que en realidad, no se terminó nunca. Es el retorno luego de muchos años al lugar donde fuiste la persona más feliz y a la vez la más triste.
Volver a nacer se cuenta en dos tiempos...
