Minirelato: PAULINO FREITES
Quién sabe cuándo comenzó aquella costumbre de guardar un poquito de comida para aquel peregrino que pudiera pasar necesitando bastimento para continuar su tránsito. Luego que Pedro Alejando González se marchó al cafetal, poco después, llamó desde el patio un hombre cerrado de Liqui-Liqui preguntando por Juana Guevara. Ésta se encontraba en el fogón preparando el desayuno de los niños; y Mercedes, la mayorcita, salió al patio a preguntar que se le ofrecía al que llamaba. La niña, entró de regreso al rancho y en el fogón le dijo a su mama que el señor que estaba afuera decía llamarse Paulino Freites y no venía por comida sino por una vela. Esta fue, la única vez que Mercedes vio a su papá.
