En nuestra sociedad es indispensable frecuentar muchos lugares como el sitio de trabajo, Universidad, locales, entre otros, en los cuales podemos encontrarnos con personas que fuman cigarro y acostumbran hacerlo ante cualquier persona, sin tomar en cuenta el daño que se hace y que nos hace, "Si, que nos hace" porque el humo del cigarro que esa persona fuma frente a nosotros nos perjudica por igual, incluso hasta un poco más.

Muchas personas fumadoras no tienen conciencia del daño que ocasionan a otras personas por fumar a su lado. Por ello, es necesario informar que según estudios realizados solo un 15% del humo que desprende un cigarro es inhalado por el fumador mientras que el 85% restante del humo es expulsado al aire. El problema no acaba aquí, debido a que el humo que produce la punta del cigarro es altamente cancerigena, pues contiene arsénico, amoníaco y cianuro de hidrógeno, capaces de producir infecciones respiratorias (como bronquitis y neumonía), asma, cancer, entre otras afecciones pulmonales.

En los ultimos años se ha intensificado la cantidad de niños que padecen asma, neumonía, entre otras enfermedades respiratorias.
