Oracle quiere que Java EE sea más abierto y colaborativo
Luego de de finalizar el desarrollo desarrollo de Java EE 8, Oracle ha decidido optar por un licenciamiento más flexible por lo que han comenzado conversaciones con distintas comunidades Open Source, moviendo el control a una organización open source Oracle pretende mantenerse al día con los desarrolladores y con las nuevas tendencias.
Recordemos que Java EE (Java Platform, Enterprise Edition) es la plataforma usada por Oracle para el desarrollo y ejecución de software empresarial usando el lenguaje de programación Java. Y que actualmente su estándar y sus requisitos son establecidos por The Java Community Process.
Oraclereseñó en su blog lo siguiente "Java EE tiene un enorme éxito, con un mercado competitivo de implementaciones compatibles, una amplia adopción de tecnologías individuales, un enorme ecosistema de marcos y herramientas y un sinnúmero de aplicaciones que ofrecen valor a las empresas y usuarios finales. Sin embargo, aunque Java EE se desarrolla en código abierto con la participación de la comunidad Java EE, a menudo el proceso no se ve como ágil, flexible o abierto lo suficiente, especialmente si se compara con otras comunidades de código abierto. Nos gustaría hacer algo mejor."
De concretarse dicho cambio Oracle señalo en su blog de igual forma que seguira ofeciendo soporte a las versiones actuales de Java EE y que continuarían participando en la evolución de las futuras tecnologías que se desarrollen.
