I have doubts that Discord really expects to dethrone Steam, the juggernaut with what could only described as "unfathomable" reach. Discord's offering is probably closer to that of Twitch -- a lucrative niche.
Still the best time to get on Discord's game store is now, while their selection of titles is pretty narrow.
I don't think that would happen anytime soon or ever. But I think is good to have more options. I haven't tried it but you can launch the games you have on Steam from Discord too.
