Que los sistemas sanitarios en la mayor parte de los países del África Subsahariana son deficitarios no es ninguna novedad. Si bien las capitales suelen contar con mejores instalaciones y profesional más cualificado, no son accesibles para todos. Al abandonar las capitales los hospitales de varias plantas se convierten en pequeñas clínicas multifunción, donde se trata de dar cobertura a cualquier dolencia o enfermedad con equipamientos poco especializados.
