Perseo
La travesía había tomado casi cinco mil años, desde que la nave había abandonado el sistema solar y había adquirido la velocidad de crucero, la Tierra que habían dejado atrás, ya no era la misma, posiblemente ahora sería un paraje desolado, abandonado por la humanidad hace muchos siglos. Lo que quedase de la humanidad ya estaría en las colonias de Europa y Titan, llevando una vida dura y miserable, haciendo excursiones regulares a Marte y a una inhabitable Tierra, en busca de recursos minerales necesarios para la supervivencia, a la espera de un mensaje de naves como ésta, naves colonizadoras de avanzada, enviadas a la búsqueda de mundos habitables.
Para la Perseo, una de las ciento cincuenta naves colonizadoras que habían sido enviadas a diversos sistemas estelares prometedores, llegaba lo hora de cumplir la misión para la que había sido enviada, iniciar la colonización de uno de los planetas de un remoto sistema ubicado en una estrella de la constelación de Draco.
No era precisamente un sistema acogedor, estaba formado por una enana roja orbitada por ocho planetas rocosos, al llegar, la inteligencia artificial de abordo despertó a Herbert, quien estaría a cargo de la selección del mundo que serviría para alojar a la colonia. A través de la cúpula del centro de mando se podían ver algunos de los mundos que formaban el sistema, estaban tan próximos unos a otros y a la estrella que todos daban siempre la misma cara al astro y la otra al espacio.
Seis de los mundos eran secos y desolados como la luna de la tierra, sin embargo, los otros dos eran prometedores, Herbert seleccionó el quinto en proximidad a la estrella, el otro era el tercero y resultaría menos hospitalario para la colonia. Tras orientar la nave, Herbert se dispuso a preparar todo para la instalación de la colonia, el trayecto hasta el planeta tardaría unos dos meses más.
Al arribar al planeta y tras hacer los procedimientos de aterrizaje, la inteligencia artificial de abordo, reportó a Herbert las transmisiones recibidas durante el viaje; eran dos, la primera emitida 1252 años atrás, proveniente de la colonia humana en Titan, los últimos humanos habían abandonado la colonia en una nave generacional, debido a la carencia de recursos y tomaron rumbo al sistema Trappist 1, como última esperanza para su supervivencia, a continuación le reportó una segunda transmisión, esta vez datada hace 843 años, provenía de la inteligencia artificial de la nave generacional, Informando la muerte de la tripulación, debido a la falla de los sistemas de soporte vital y notificando el cese de sus operaciones, tras orientar la nave rumbo a Trappist 1a.
Herbert recibió la transmisión fríamente y se dirigió a completar la puesta en marcha de la colonia. Tras activar a los androides nodriza y los robots de exploración, así como a los dispositivos de terraformación, que se encargarían de ajustar los parámetros ambientales a los requerimientos de la colonia, este proceso duraría unos quinientos años y su resultado no sería conocido por esta generación de colonos.
Finalmente se dispuso a completar el proceso de sacar del estado de hibernación criogénica a los futuros pobladores del planeta, los diez mil embriones humanos estaban en su totalidad en estado de viabilidad, con esto concluía su labor, ahora todo quedaba a manos de la inteligencia artificial de la ahora colonia terrestre Perseo y de los androides nodriza, quienes se encargaría de llevar a buen término la incubación y crianza de los diez mil nuevos colonos. Su tarea había llegado a su fin, Herbert se dirigió al centro de reciclaje donde sus partes de androide de operaciones, serían reutilizadas para el funcionamiento de la colonia.
Perseus
The crossing had taken almost five thousand years, since the ship had left the solar system and had acquired the cruising speed, the Earth that they had left behind, it was no longer the same, possibly now it would be a desolate place, abandoned by humanity centuries ago. What remains of humanity would already be in the colonies of Europe and Titan, having a hard and miserable life, making regular trips to Mars and an uninhabitable Earth, in search of mineral resources necessary for survival, waiting for a message from ships like this, advanced colonizing ships, sent to search for habitable worlds.
For the Perseus, one of the 150 colonizing ships that had been sent to several promising star systems, it was time to fulfill the mission for which it had been sent, to begin the colonization of one of the planets of a remote system located in a Star of the Draco constellation.
It was not exactly a cozy system, it was formed by a red dwarf orbited by eight rocky planets, on arrival, the artificial intelligence aboard woke up Herbert, who would be in charge of the selection of the world that would serve to accommodate the colony. Through the dome of the command center he could see some of the worlds that formed the system, they were so close to each other and to the star that they all always gave the same face to the star and the other to space.
Six of the worlds were dry and desolate like the moon of the earth, however, the other two were promising, Herbert selected the fifth in proximity to the star, the other was the third and would be less hospitable to the colony. After guiding the ship, Herbert set out to prepare everything for the installation of the colony, the journey to the planet would take about two more months.
When arriving at the planet and after making the landing procedures, the artificial intelligence on board, reported to Herbert the transmissions received during the trip; there were two, the first issued 1252 years ago, from the human colony on Titan, the last humans had left the colony in a generational ship, due to lack of resources and they took course to the Trappist 1 system, as the last hope for their survival, then reported a second transmission, this time dated 843 years ago, came from the artificial intelligence of the generational ship, reporting the death of the crew, due to the failure of life support systems and notifying the cessation of operations , after guiding the ship towards Trappist 1a.
Herbert received the transmission coldly and went to complete the start-up of the colony, activated the nurse droids and the exploration robots, as well as the terraforming devices, which would be responsible for adjusting the environmental parameters to the requirements of the colony, this process would last about five hundred years and its result would not be known by this generation of settlers.
Finally he set out to complete the process of removing the future inhabitants of the planet from the state of cryogenic hibernation, the ten thousand human embryos were in their entirety in a state of viability, with this he concluded his work, now everything was at the hands of artificial intelligence of the now terrestrial colony Perseus and of the nurse droids, who would be in charge of carrying out the incubation and upbringing of the ten thousand new settlers. His task had come to an end, Herbert went to the recycling center where his operations android parts would be reused for the operation of the colony.
