Hmmm, interesting topic... I think technology is just an aid - nothing can truly replace meeting, seeing, talking and knowing that person face-to-face! Having said that, the technology that you mention, I feel is just a facilitator - just like the library, a coffee shop, etc... it is another method to kick off the process... You 'meet' & 'talk' to a person online, then take it to the next step.
