Scheme of milking platform
While analyzing the data to write the previous post, I saw a lot of things that I would not like to see on our platform. It was like digging in someone else's dirty laundry. The scale of the activity that is not aimed at social interaction and that harms the development of Steemit has amazed me. I am much more comfortable in the company of bloggers who share their thoughts, comment on other people's posts and earn as much as readers like their articles.
But today I want to share one way of milking the platform, because I liked the cleverness of whoever came up with it.
With the launch of the #burnsteem25 initiative, the @ctime account owner decided to support it. Everyone has probably noticed that when you set the @null account as the 25% beneficiary, your post will definitely be upvoted by @ctime. A good initiative, but people with less noble intentions decided to take advantage of it. If you have a newly created account, post junk and don't expect to get upvotes from any real users, then it makes sense to give 25% of the rewards to get guaranteed support. Although this support is only worth a few cents, if you have hundreds of such accounts, you will get some profit. But at the same time you also clog the platform.
I came across these posts:
There are hundreds of such typical posts. Besides the fact that they are not very interesting, most of them are also plagiarism.
All these posts are characterized by a lack of social interaction and a small but guaranteed support.
In order to receive his cherished 18 cents, the author just needs to set the @null account as a 25% beneficiary and use the tag #krsuccess
.
Since the earnings are small, it must be scaled. It is not difficult to find out that there are a lot of such accounts belonging to one person. let's look at transfers from one specific account:
Using the received MEMO, we can easily learn that only in the 15 days of December, there were more than 50 such accounts and they took 158,252 STEEM to the exchange, earned in a not too honest way.

Why am I writing this?
Each of us can give both upvotes and downvotes. However, we do not use this opportunity. The reasons are quite clear. Giving downvotes is not very pleasant, besides, many are afraid of revenge. But if the community does not independently regulate what the rewards will be spent on, then sooner or later a situation will arise where conscientious authors will receive crumbs, and the rest will be taken by plagiarists, spammers and fraudsters. Then the authors will leave the platform, it will become uninteresting to anyone and eventually sink like the Titanic.
Think about it.
This already happens. It has to happen to anyone who takes some minutes off their own business and looks what is published on the platform each minute. Without filters of course. Filters are great, but most of us do not use them and those who are new or want to learn something about the platform before they register do not have them.
Quoting myself:
Don't laugh, this was the usual ongoing in former times.
Dear Oleh, excuse me, but you are much too friendly... :-))
We all need to downvote. As a community. If the community leaves this issue on the shoulders of a few, those will be tired soon.
You know what? Actually they are!
Edit
Perhaps it should be mentioned that #burnsteem25 is only one ‘way’ to get an autovote. There are plenty more (tags, communities), even for bigger votes! The scammers know this, I won't list any more. Just one: take a look right on your doorstep, dear Steemcurators, dear Steem Representatives: https://steemit.com/muted/hive-166405
Don't look away, take action!

Where would I start... I could spend my whole day reflecting and writing on @o1eh's post...
I totally agree with you, Chriddi but I'm gonna change that a bit, "this already happened, long time ago". probably a few months after the beginning, somewhere in 2017 ;)
Content on the chain has some weight, but let's say it's somewhere at 10%, maybe even less 'cause I usually have to scroll down a lot to see something interesting and written in a language I read (four languages I can read without translation). What appears to be much more important are investments, social skills (engagement, sending compliments, etc.), adaptability and that common symptom of all networks with a social side, usually trying to present a perfect life of a perfect individual, appeal, etc. Sexual appeal also comes in handy.
Start complaining about life, money and NO appeal - nobody cares.
Start complaining about life, money and YES appeal - huge votes, delegations, transfers, I hope I make my point :)))
Content isn't that important in the end. Nothing different from RL ;)
Personally I wouldn't start a downvote war, I've seen many and it is always ugly, both side suffer while at the same time other scams thrive.
What I would help, in general, is Steemit Inc. sits with the largest stakeholders, and the biggest witnesses and come out with some common rules, rules that would later be applied to everyone, from plankton to whales. Only then could the community start to spread fair downvotes, otherwise it would always be personal.
In the particular case, I guess some of those mentioned big players should contact ctime and ask them to change that or just implement a blacklist or some verification perhaps instead of just upvoting burn25.
I hope this makes sense, have a lovely day all and thanks for bringing up subjects such as this one it's not easy :)

Oh, thank you so much for your detailed comment.
A whole day? This topic has been on my mind my whole Steemit life and I could fill a book with it... ;-)
The article triggered me to reply. Although I knew that we had already had pages of discussions about this in the past. I won't go into that depth again. It only costs (a lot of) lifetime and doesn't change anything anyway.
Yes, that's right! But back then there was a much larger group of users who were prepared to do something about the abuses. Whether they succeeded or not (as you can see, they didn't) is irrelevant. They tried. They did something. They set signs that they did not agree with the situation. They were loud. They didn't put up with everything.
I also experienced the great flag wars and of course I don't want to experience something like that again. However, I still believe that not much harm can be done to the individual if everyone sticks together in good will. And why not? After all, the fraudsters stick together too.
Nevertheless, the flags are an instrument provided by the system. And they are simply intended to show: ‘I don't agree with what you're doing.’ To send a sign.
Of course, this ‘power’ can also be exploited (as we have seen in the past), but you can think about that when the time comes.
At the same time, I think it's too late for everything (including positive conversations) because there are far too many automatisms.
A hard fork (Witness task) with modified reward mechanisms would be more important (automatisms must not be rewarded). But since too many Witnesses benefit from these automatisms themselves, it won't happen... :-(

Spot on! You're so right about the book thing, it would be in multiple volumes, I bet :)))
Now my turn to thank you for your time reading and responding to my thoughts, I know nothing will change, because I suggested the same common-ground rules, or let's call them guidelines, back in 2018, I think, long before the split.
Do you believe that's possible and more importantly, doable? Frankly, I highly doubt that. True, I'd like that to happen but my stake is too tiny to be really important.
Automatism... I don't mind, it's just a tool, similar to a scalpel - in the hands of a surgeon it saves lives, in the hands of a killer, it takes lives. Actually, I think it has more positive value, as without it, investors and developers won't be attracted and retained on the chain and developers in crypto usually bring some stake along, unless coming from the poor desperate parts of the world.
I think it should become a habit for everyone. But given the scale of the abuse, we will never have enough resources to clean up the platform. Although this is not a reason to give up. 🙂
We critically need to make the Steemit homepage more "human". It is unlikely that a person who saw it for the first time will decide to join to run his blog. He will think that only spam is posted here. 😕 In the blockchain, there will always be applications, such as TipTag, thanks to which tons of spam will get here. That's why we need at least filters.

Nobody said it would succeed. Nobody said we wanted a flag war. What rubbish, nobody wants that! And we won't ‘win’ either.
But we can set an example! Send out signals that say we don't agree with what's going on.
And anyone can do that! Every user, no matter how tiny! Make a statement, express your opinion without saying much. Set an example.
Closing the eyes and resting on the own (sometimes high) rewards is NOT an option! Anyone who does this opens the door to even more spam/scam, because there are no consequences... No consequences, not even small signs. At most, honest users who leave the platform in disgust (Gosh, I know so many of them!). Think this negative chain reaction through to the end! Maybe a little DV here or there instead?!
No promise of success, of course. One way. A different path than the one modelled by the god the lemmings follow... 🤷♀️

Bloggers have already lost interest in the platform as they are the ones who are least supported like you said. On the other hand, crap gets support from left and right. It's not just about bid-bot users anymore. There's a lot of crap among "nice users" too.
Maybe, there shouldn't be any guaranteed support projects or auto-votes for anyone. 🤔 There's more fun in continuously working on the quality of your content and anticipating the response. This goes for everything including reports and challenges.

I'm thinking about it too and it would probably be right. Guaranteed rewards reduce people's motivation.

I have commented on this in a wide variety of contexts and even made suggestions (for short-term implementation). Never fully developed, of course. And of course something like this could not be implemented suddenly, it would require a concept. It would require the cooperation of several ‘instances’. And for that - i in other words for co-operation and concept development - ‘one’ would have to be ready...
Hello,@chriddi,@justyy,@the-gorilla,oleh
We made a lot of fake posts on Steemit and even created our own fake community.I caused a lot of trouble for the Steam people because of me and caused them harm and also wasted my time. Although I also built my own robot, I was not successful in it.I feel ashamed to do all this work.I created many accounts and caused a lot of damage to Steemit. Because of my creating so many accounts, they stopped creating accounts.I also know some hacking. I have the power to create an account by passing the code from using burpsuite without giving a phone number or email. But I was wrong in all of them.I created my own community, which had the problem of plagiarism, but I also found a solution to that by using it as a tool.At first, I thought that I was getting automatic earnings because of the tool I had created, but later I realized that all this is forbidden and a sin.I am very proud of the steamers who stopped me and I salute their bravery.Especially @the-gorilla and @justyy.But after that I didn't post any fakes on Steemit even though I could have.I knew my IP had been given to the Steemit people, but I was using a remote dextop. And my only reason for using Pakistan's IP was that Pakistan's FIA doesn't work quickly. But I later realized that it was wrong and a sin to do so, so I stopped doing it.After that, I stopped not only spaming on Steemit, but also scaming on everything.
I know what it is and how to stop it, so I want to help you. I hope I can keep Steemit safe from these scammers.I want to be included in your team and if I am given a chance, I will bring high results.I am not very good at writing English because my native language is not English, so please don't judge my writing. Sad sad sad!
Unfair
But not only these scammers!
As Hira said and I have also pointed out many a times...
The usual ones with reports, and such... Well if I say it out loud: publish crap most of the time and still get upvoted!
It's not "the grapes are sour" situation but even the posts nominated by SC curators are below average most of the time...
I don't know if you noticed or not: The really good bloggers are losing interest and losing it fast :(

Yes, I have noticed that some of the good bloggers have become inactive. But I'm still not sure if it's a natural process, if it's due to the lack of SBD, or if they're just disappointed with the platform 😕.
Making this network more human would be something extraordinary... we know it’s not possible, but your posts make the narcissistic culture of humanity visible. All the best to you and thanks for yet another excellent post!
