I never do that and don't like that either. One thing that I think is silly are the ones who have thousands of followers and only follow a few to look important. Is that why? And those who make sure they have more followers than following.
Human pride is a wicked thing. I think as long as people are being authentic, the number shouldn't matter overly much.
You're right, none of that should matter.
