spanish civil war
The Spanish Civil War took place between 1936-39. With fascism winning the war, Franco's dictatorship continued until 1975, when he died. In Spain, the trauma created by Franco's murder, mass murder and terrorist policies, especially after the civil war and after, was pushed down from the valley of oblivion of social memory. The confrontation proceeded in feeble steps devoid of courage, determination, will to examine those terrible years, and to correspond to the enormous gravity of the event. The mass graves still unearthed even in Spain, the unknown numbers of people buried under the Madrid highways are undoubtedly anarchists, communists, republicans and opponents of Franco. According to Amnesty International, Spain is the country with the most mass graves in the world, after Cambodia. There are names of 114 thousand civilians who disappeared in mass graves.
