It's time for the human race to enter the solar system. - Dan Quayle -

Our solar system is a bizarre place with countless alien planets, mysterious moons and strange phenomena. Researchers have identified ice volcanoes on Pluto, while Mars hosts a huge canyon with the size of the United States. Here is a list of the strangest features of our solar system.

Jupiter's moon, Io, has huge volcanic eruptions

On the moon Io, are present hundreds of volcanoes, being considered one of the most active moons in the solar system, the jet being thrown over 400 kilometers in the atmosphere. Some space probes have failed to register eruptions. The eruptions on Io, took place because of its huge gravity to which it is exposed. Researchers are analyzing how heat spreads through the interior of the moon, but the existence of volcanoes is hard to predict just by using computer simulations.

Mars has one of the largest volcanoes

Although in the present day, the volcanic activity on Mars is almost nonexistent, but in the past the phenomena have caused the formation of countless volcanoes and eruptions. Among these volcanoes, there is included the volcano Olympus Mons, the largest in the solar system. With a diameter of 600 kilometers and a height of 25 kilometers, landform is three times higher than Mount Everest. Martian volcanoes can reach impressive dimensions because of the low gravity.

High winds on Venus

Venus is a planet extremely dangerous because of the temperatures extremely powerful and a high pressure environment. Soviet probe Venera, lasted only a few minutes to the surface of Venus, when the probe landed in 1970. But above the atmosphere surface remains extremely dangerous. Researchers found that winds blow 50 times more powerful than the planet's rotation.

Frozen water is found everywhere

Frozen water was considered a rare substance in space, but experts now know exactly where to look. Ice is a regular component of comets and asteroids. But ice on comets is different than on Earth, according to examinations conducted by Rosetta probe on the surface of comet 67 / Churyumov-Gerasimenko.

The probes have visited all the planets

Mankind explores space for more than 60 years and has shot countless celestial objects. Voyager has left Earth in 1977 and since then transmits information about the solar system and the universe. Among the places that the probe visited  are: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

Mercury is shrinking

Experts have thought for many years that Earth is the only planet in the solar system with tectonic activity. But after inquiries by the MESSENGER probe, it could be seen traces of the planet contracting, produced at 4.5 billion years of solar system formation.

Mountains on Pluto

The dwarf planet Pluto is on the edge of the solar system, and scientists have found that its surface is smooth. But during NASA's New Horizons mission in 2015, experts have discovered that on Pluto, there are ice mountains over 3,000 meters.

At the edge of the solar system there could be a huge planet

In January 2015, astronomers Konstantin Batygin and Mike Brown announced, based on computer simulations, there could be a huge planet beyond Neptune. Several teams are currently searching for alleged ' New Planet'.

Sun's atmosphere is more hotter than its surface

While the visible surface of the Sun, called the photosphere, it is 5,500 degrees Celsius, the upper atmosphere is a million times hotter.

In the solar system, there could be life

So far, researchers found no evidence for the existence of life in another area of the solar system, but by analyzing the microbial life in extreme areas of the Earth, the possibility of their existence on other planets might be possible. Even if they don't find descendants of Martians, experts are convinced that microbial life might be possible.

I think we have a good chance of surviving long enough to colonize the solar system. - Stephen Hawking -

i love astronomy! huge nut. great post. upvote and following

Glad to hear that, thank you very much! I love this stuff too!

Spaaaaaaaace!

There's all sorts of evidence of intelligent life elsewhere in our solar systems- lots of structures n the moon- a monolith on phbus- furthermore the ESA probe detected that phobias is 30-40% hollow and those spaces within are geometric and of intelligent design as well as having objects within them- ships perhaps. Then there's the ring around saturn- part pf which used to be a super structure made of a clear glass like aluminum alloy and built by intelligent beings larger than humans- if you were to get close enough to the rigs you'd be able to see the intelligent design as well as objects/remnants of what once was a base that surrounded Saturn. There's far more tat's been concealed about our solar system than has been revealed- that however will be changing soon enough.

Wow, very impressive @thelightreports, thank you very much for this information. This is how I learn more every day. Cheers!

I expect much of this will be brought to light in the very near future- the true history of our solar system is mind-blowing - there is life everywhere and ruins that are billions of years old.

Yes, the true history of our solar system it really is mind-blowing. I can't wait to see more in the near future!

Great post. I love anything to do with the cosmos!

Thanks, I love that too!

I wish you would provide additional sources for the material. Nice posts like this might really inspire people to read more into this stuff, and providing people with a nice bread crumb trail can really make that learning happen faster.

Anyway nice job.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate your feedback. I will take into consideration what you said, and for the next posts, I will try to provide additional sources.

Remember it's not about just justifying the knowledge you used or work of other people. Citations provide the reader with a valuable way to do more research. As science writers we have to have at least some desire to increase everyone's knowledge, its the best way to make good progress in the world :D

Thanks @the-future, you're the best. :)

You are right, I didn't think about that, thank you very much for those great comments, it really means a lot for me.
