Bizarre space news, octopuses aren't from space

Some of you might have read the bizarre article, about octopuses being aliens last week. At first I questioned it, thinking is it serious or not. Even if it wasn't, I was instantly interested as they are my favourite marine animals.

The paper was published on 13th March 2018, in the journal Progress in Biophysics and Molecular Biology. Over 33 authors discuss how life evolved on earth and the conclusion on how it might have been seeded here by comets. One theory mentions how octopus eggs were frozen on a comet and then landed on earth. It goes on to mention how extraterrestrial viruses have evolved the octopus genes, and/or it could be a case where they formed host-parasite relationships with invertebrates.

The paper is a revised theory of Panspermia. Panspermia tries to answer how life originated on earth. It suggests that all life was brought to earth from a bombardment of comets.

Octopuses are strange, they have a beak, blue blood, no bones, three hearts and the list can go on. We've explored space, more than our own oceans and stranger creatures could be down there. Octopuses being from space is an interesting idea, but there's no evidence to back this statement.
