The dwarf planet Ceres, once thought to be a dead and static rock, may have water cycles. Observations from the Dawn spacecraft have shown a crater wall becoming icier as the sun’s position changed in the sky over the course of six months, indicating that subsurface ice particles may be lofted up into the air and land on the wall like dew.

Scientists are looking for such planets where human can live in future. But to fulfill that requirement those planets need to be just like the earth which provides us everything that we need to live. On the earth you get oxygen, water, food and several other things, while other planets can’t provide you these things. But after several researches, scientists found that Mars may have the existence of life. Unfortunately, human couldn’t be able to reach Mars as of now, but their planning is going on to be there very soon.

Like Mars they discovered another planet called the dwarf planet Ceres.  According to them, this planet is likely to have water cycles. They came to this conclusion after seeing the ice on a crater wall. This data is collected by Dawn spacecraft. This could be possible due to the change in the sun’s position during the period of six months.

At NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Carol Raymond and her team are working on the data collected from the Dawn spacecraft. They are trying to see how the ice is changing its state on the planet as warm season has started there.  There is no doubt that one day human will reside in another planet in future. But it may take several years.

Thanks for this. Yes We need to constantly look for new planets that can support life because we ill not always be able to count on our beautiful planet Earth. I have heard about the possibilities of Mars but not Ceress so much. Glad to learn a bit more about it. Keep the search going NASA!
