Potato Thoughts #3: What does the Milky Way tastes like?

The Galaxy

In this age of space exploration a.k.a. space age, we have already identified that our planet(earth) belonged to a system bounded by gravitational forces with the sun as its center. We referred to it as the solar system.

Later, we realized that our solar system is contained within a larger network of systems, some of these systems were even larger than ours. We called this network as The Milky Way galaxy or simply The Milky Way.

Why did we call it the Milky Way?
Where does that name came from?
Does our Galaxy taste like milk?

The Galaxy and it's taste

The term 'Milky Way' was derived from the Greek words *galaxías and *kyklos which translates to "milky circle". We call it Milky Way because of its appearance as viewed from earth, which is like a band of white light.

Now we know that its named after its appearance and not from its taste. But just for curiosity's sake, does our galaxy has taste? If it has, what does it tastes like?

In 2009, while astronomers were searching for 'building blocks of life' in a giant dust cloud at the heart of the our galaxy, specifically the area near Sagittarius B2, they have discovered the presence of a substance called ethyl formate.

Ethyl formate is the compound responsible for the taste of raspberries and the smell of rum. Well, I must say that our galaxy is quite tasty.

Men desire the taste of Space

The discovery of 'the taste of Space' created a sensation. The public became more excited when a Japanese tea company made the Space Tea. The Space Tea is a tea blend Assam and Ceylon tea with added ginger, peppermint, mallow and other fragrances. It promised to reproduce the scent and taste of the galaxy, though the substance ethyl formate is not present in the tea.

Space Tea is not cheap in 2015 the price for a can with 20 tea bags is ¥2160 ($17). But for the experience of tasting space, I think its quite reasonable.
