Crew Dragon - In The Sky and Beyond

It’s not every day that we get to witness a space launch, successful or not. Having covered a few space events in my previous posts, it’s only fitting that I stamp some thoughts over the latest SpaceX adventure. Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken are the duo who have finally left the Earth and embarked on a journey that is quite literally out of this world. Automated space travel is not a dream, it’s here and very real. The Crew Dragon has been in developments for a number of years now and the team behind this effort will feel proud of their achievement as the rocket blasted off from the Kennedy Space Center earlier today.

//Watching History//

Having sat through the entire launch event, it’s the first time I have been able to take time aside on a weekend and watch something like this online. Humans taking flight in space, it’s a monumental part of history and I felt slightly nervous as the whole thing unfolded. With today’s success, the future looks to hold a great deal more for human space travel. What I have read in science fiction and seen in space movies might soon be reality. Deep space journeying is certainly on the agenda and today is an event that many will remember as yet another step for humanity as we strive to venture even further and perhaps even settle on new soils.

//Space and Back//

People in space, are simply out of this world and I hope that the Crew Dragon carries out its tasks as intended over the course of the next few months. It feels like I am waiting for someone to arrive from their flight, eagerly awaiting news of successful docking. As an observer, this has been a much needed lift off. This autonomous journey will need a leg back too and it will be just as exciting for the astronauts and those on the space station to return home. Fingers crossed for a safe return and I am ever more excited for future SpaceX missions, whether it be to Mars, the Moon or somewhere a little more adventurous.
