The Milky Way is bigger than we believed.

The disk of our galaxy is great. Bigger than it was thought. Thus, a study was recently completed by scientists from the Canary Asthysics Institute in Spain in collaboration with experts from China's "National Astronomical Observatories". Thus the disk of our galaxy has a greater dimension than what was calculated so far; 200,000 light-years diameter. This distance means that if we were traveling lightly enough, it would take 200,000 years to describe the Milky Way Disc. The spiral galaxies such as the Milky Way are characterized by a thin disc where most of the stars are usually found; has a limited dimension and starting from a distance we can not encounter in the stars. For example, our disk was not believed to have stars at the central distance twice the distance of the Sun. However, in the new study it emerges that not only exist at this distance, but still further, triple the distance of the Sun, even four times. They have compared the amount of metal in this with that of lighting by detecting that there is a mix of disks and lighting up to the distance without theorized.

Earlier scientists had estimated that the Milky Way's diameter had approximately 100,000 and 180,000 light years. "Our analysis reveals the presence of disc stars in a radius of 26 kpc-kilo-pepper (with 99.7% probability) and more than 31 kpc (with 95.4% probability)," the authors of this study say. One kiloparse is 3262 light years. Scientists have come to this conclusion after analyzing the data statistics of two projects called APOGEE and LAMOST that capture the spectrum of stars. "Using the content of stars metals cataloged by the combination of high-quality spectral atlas such as APOGEE and LAMOST and the distance at which the objects are located, we have proved that there is an estimated fraction of stars beyond what was supposed to end the disk of the Milky Way, "explains Carlos Allende, a scientist.
