Day 54

Today we had a bit of a lie in, I got up at 0545 and then at 0700 we started washing the cars and the equipment. The trainers went to retrieve the broken car and miraculously it can now start, the other one sounds a lot healthier too! We spent a couple of hours cleaning the cars, cleaning the recovery equipment and making sure the tyres all had the correct pressure in them – I can now use the compressor! 🙂 I studied for a bit and then we went through a few bits with the car. They had to take one of the wheels off anyway so we were able to have a good luck at all the parts we’ve been learning about this week. Then we had a lovely brunch of quiche and banana bread (it doesn’t taste like banana!)

At 1300 we had a revision session with the 4 x 4 trainers (the assessor arrived yesterday evening – Andre), things seem a lot clearer now having seen the parts in real life. At 1500 we went on our practical assessment. We all drove to a place on Makalali and had to do quite a steep hill descent, begin the ascent, stall the car, do a reverse stall start back to the bottom of the hill and then drive back up the hill safely. We all passed, now just the theory exam tomorrow. We had the best time, so many laughs, racing the 4 x 4 back to camp, a water fight – such a good day. We got back to camp and had dinner of beef stew, vegetable fried rice and salad. I went up to the classroom for a bit more revision, then showered and had an early night!
