Photography from a Helicoptor (Includes before and after edit!)

in #sonyalpha7 years ago (edited)

Update: So I'm pretty new to still and honestly the thought of uploading images to another site/page is a struggle but I'll try and lace the uploads with little tips and hopefully that gives you a reason to follow along here.

Now the below photo is heavily edited in lightroom i'll put the before shot at the end so you can see.
Obviously shooting a city scape with the light behind is challenging but add the fast moving helicopter to the mix it.

The rule of thumb for shooting while moving is roughly double your "zoom" or focal length so shooting on a 24 mm you don't want to go slower than 1/50th and on a 200mm idealy 1/400th shutter, but when your in a helicopter this changes and you need to keep your shutter faster. So for this I tried to keep my shutter speed fast, my lens wide open and went higher than I would normally like on the iso and just exposed for the highlights knowing I could recover the shadows in post.

Summary:
The helicopter moving means you need to watch your shutter speed. keep it fast as you can.
Know your camera and raw files before flying how far can you push your raw files?
turn on the histogram or zebra lines so you know your highlights are safe.

So here is the image after I thrashed it though lightroom

Welcome to Steemit 😁

Thanks mate, signed up a few months ago during the bitcoin storm :) you seem to have been doing really well on here. I find it hard just to post on IG these days see how I go. Hope your well.

All well here!
Steemit has a great community vibe, something Instagram lacks, even more so once you start getting on here more.
I too got bitcoin fever once the storm came through ;)

If you haven't already, check out @teamaustralia and posts by @choogirl
And for photography, there are a lot of competitions and sharing blogs but the best around is @photofeed in my opinion.
I look forward to seeing more of your stuff on here!

Congratulations @robmulally! You received a personal award!
