An inventory of this organist's recording equipment
Hello Steem friends,
I thought it would be a good idea to share with you the equipment I use to create my recordings. The video above (one of @organduo's compositions!) used three camera angles. I could actually have up to five camera angles, but it creates a lot more work post production and not to mention hard drive space.
Audio Recorder: Tascam DR-05
I've had this recorder for almost 10 years now. It's a workhorse and very affordable. Although I don't use this when using Hauptwerk (virtual organ), I take it when I record on real pipe organs. You'll see some videos on my blog on a pipe organ and the audio was captured using this.
Main camera: Zoom Q4N
This is a very good portable camera with excellent audio—though the audio captured very close to the source isn't helpful in terms of pipe organ recording (hence I place the Tascam down in the church nave and sync up later). I turn the microphones in the XY position so it can record my contest announcements clearly (XY means the audio capture is focused).
Secondary camera: Zoom Q2N
This is the model below the Q4N. I take this out to church services because it's very compact and can run off standard AA batteries. At my home studio, I use it as the pedal camera angle.
Extra cameras: SJCAM SJ4000
I have three of these action cameras to record angles such as my face, close to the keyboards and audience view. I don't use all three very often because the amount of work that is required to sync them all up in post production. If there was a very special event, I would bring all the big guns out for a spectacular video production.
Microphone Boom Stand
Not for karaoke but to record an overhead view of the keyboards. Works surprisingly well, cheap and easy to obtain.
Joby Gorilla Pod
I have a couple of these to use with the action cameras and also the camera used to capture the pedal angle.
Standard Tripod
Nothing fancy, just a stock standard tripod. Any will do. Also used for the lighting (below).
Power Banks
I have three Xiaomi powerbanks used to power all my devices. This way I don't have to worry about finding power sockets. The power banks have two usb ports each, so having three is enough. They even power my additional lighting (below).
Additional Lighting
In some churches, the light is quite poor especially around the organ console. I use these to illuminate the console as well as giving a better recording picture (dual purpose!). The video below is an example of using this lighting.
