A Cloud Over Frozen Lake

This comes inspired by William Blake

An apple from a rotten tree,
A garden where you can't be free,
A cycle with no end in sight,
A system long devoid of light.

The fetters that you cánnot break,
The blessings you cannót forsake.
The everlasting, numbing pain,
Eternal lust for all that's vain.

An unrelenting, nagging doubt
That to bring forth you're not allowed.
A promise that was never there,
An apparition in the air.

The meaning that you cannot find,
The love and light you've left behind,
The hatred you no longer hide,
An overwhelming, burning pride.

So goes the story of the fall
Of the tormented ancient soul.
A benefaction of no need.
A penance for an old misdeed.

A cloud over frozen lake.
A dream from which you cannot wake.
A veil through which you cannot see,
The one they call reality.

The chaos that belies ahead.
The tired smiling and the dread.
The strangest dreams of things to be,
Of mice and men, of you and me

P.S.: Wasn't written to any background music. In retrospect it seems that it might fit the melody of Rammstein - Rosenrot

Here comes a wicked song of mine,
Inspired by Bringers and Rammstein.
Those rhymes, they are a poem not,
They fit the tune of Rosenrot.

P.P.S.: Written during January last quarter of the moon:

The first last quarter of the year.
The feelings that were never here.
The emptiness you can't forgo,
The craving that's for all to know.
