The song of Zion in the Bible: God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. Psalm 46:1

in #songlast month

Psalm 46 in the Bible is a song of praise to the glory of God and how the creator of all things manifests his mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) from his holy abode, Zion, to protect the chosen people. This is why this song is recognized as one of the songs of Zion along with Psalms 48, 76, and 87.
Psalm 46 is a reminder of God's works from the liberation of the Hebrews in Egypt to the establishment of Jerusalem as the capital of the Kingdom of Israel with King David.
This is why the Psalm begins the song with a total trust in God, the Lord in his wisdom protects and watches over those who worship him with a firm heart:
"God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.
Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!" Psalm 46:1-3.
Then the Psalm continues and recognizes Zion, the holy city of Jerusalem, as the spiritual center of humanity, and with a metaphor, the Psalm explains that just as a river feeds the life of a city, the spiritual gifts of God feed the city of Jerusalem. It is probably that this Psalm was written during Solomon's government, when Jerusalem reached its greatest period of splendor, and this is how the Psalm expresses the metaphor:
"There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts" Psalm 46:4-6.
The Lord is faithful to his covenant continues the Psalm, because he demands to be worshiped and recognized, and in this way, the Psalm ends by recognizing God's blessing to Israel and its sovereignty in the universe:
"He says, ´Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.´
The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress" Psalm 46:10.
