A straight 24 volt feed with outlets etc? If so that is what I have been planning to do with 5 volt DC because I can use small gauge wire and standardize all my plugs/outlets to USB to run fans, lights and charge small devices.

I plan to run separate 24 volt power down the old central heat and air plenum. That will allow me to still use the 110 volt power. I need to decide what plug to use on the 24 volt power.

That's a pretty neat idea with the plenum. I guess you would still need to run conduit to keep the vermin from chewing on the wires. The first thing to come to mind about an outlet/plug for your 24 volt system is an external jumper cable port used on vehicles. They are pretty stout. Here is a part number that you can reference them with: SY6325G1 They are rated at 600 volts DC or AC so it should be more than sufficient.

Yes that is a front runner, because of the safe polarity, and ease of finding parts. I have been looking for some that are magnetically connected, so the cable only has to be close, and the connector will connect up. I have time on that.

I will run it mice proof, but I intend to pay to have the sub floor area sprayed with expanding foam to seal it from mice. They claim to have a natural additive that stops them from tunneling back in (I think it is Alum).

:)

Yeah I like the design of them as well. Magnetic connectors sound pretty cool too!

I have never heard of an additive for the foam insulation to stop mice. Sounds pretty neat as well.

I may have to make my own connectors, but I am trying to find them first. I was going to machine them from Delron, but I am thinking I might just 3D print them instead.

I believe is is simple alum, and when they try to chew into it, they eat a mouthful! But they will not say. But if I get 2 feet of foam under the floor, it sure will not be cold in the winter, LOL!

With the Earth battery, I may not need a heat pump at all, especially for summer cooling.

:D

Yeah I don't know about custom connectors because it could make long-term maintenance a bit challenging but hey it is your system after all and perhaps in doing so you will invent something really cool!

Yeah two feet of foam would put the R-Factor way off the charts! I cannot really see a downside to the Alum ingredient other than perhaps other critters eating the dead rodents and perhaps getting poisoned or dying from it. It is always tricky stuff with anything that poisons rodents because a lot of things eat them.

Yeah the Earth battery does seem like it would make the heat pump obsolete but it would not hurt to have the heat pump as a backup.

I love your ideas!

Yes, long term maintenance is an issue, but I should be able to print a dozen or so at once, and the printer does not need me to do the work. So if I print up a hundred or so, and finish the out with magnets and contacts, I can stack them on a shelf to use whenever.

The alum isn't actually poison, it just tastes very bitter, so it should repel without killing.

I intend to use an Earth battery on the home, and the walipini (underground greenhouse.

With the heat exchanger, the house should work pretty efficiently, and still breathe enough to be healthy!

:)
