This article has blown my mind. Biggest eye opener since the LLM AIs had their breakthrough.

tl;dr - Solar energy is getting so cheap, and it's going to drop in price at least another 90% over the coming 10-15 years.

Think about what it means to live a world with infinite green energy that is nearly free.

Battery tech is improving at an amazing rate, too. So stop thinking of solar as a daytime only source.

The article is full of implications, and they're enormous. Just one for now...we're approaching the point where cheap energy can make desalination cheap enough to use for agriculture, perhaps even using existing rivers like the Colorado as a delivery system, just dumping desalinated water upstream to refill it. Anywhere you have sunlight, an ocean within a few hundred miles, and arid land...you can have new cropland. This alone can mitigate much of the cost of climate change even as atmospheric CO2 extraction starts undoing the cause of climate change.

The graph I've chosen is unusual. It shows how the cost of a watt of generating power plummets as the scale of solar installations expand. Around 2009 we hit a hockey stick effect, and we're nowhere near the end. Both scales are logarithmic, so the straight lines are like Moore's Law for computing: things keep doubling and doubling again.
