In a sure sign that social trust and stronger social bonds are necessary for a happy and healthy population, the recently released "World Happiness Report" has opened yet another chapter since it started in the year 2012. The report ranks around 155 countries in order of the happiness level of its citizens, based on criteria which maps happiness on the parameters of GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity and perceptions of corruption.

It is also clear for all to see that the rankings reflect the social trust the citizens have for things like their government and other social systems which could affect their daily lives, and ultimately their happiness.

There have also been some changes since its report last year. The US seems to have fallen one rank to the 14th place and my own country, India, to rank 122, down from 118 last year.

I hope our governments see this report and realise that just economic indicators are no measure of a population's health and happiness, and this report shows what matters the most. And a healthy and happy population is what every country should aspire for, and hope to beat Norway one day.

I suggest reading the World Happiness Report 2017 for your self, but for a quick scan, I have put the top ten happiest countries and the bottom ten saddest countries along side below.
