Finding the Right Social Media Networks for your Business.

Social Media nowadays is pretty much defined by what we determine the 'BIG 4'. These being Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Linkedin. However there are literally hundreds (if not thousands) of social media networks out there! In fact when I worked exclusively for a major international gaming company many years ago, we regularly promoted across a total of 34 social networks, some of these were actually more effective than the 'BIG 4' and I believe this was due to the fact that we had little or no competition on these.

Of course as well as the lesser known social media networks, there are of course still very popular ones such as YouTube and Vimeo - (video orientated.), Instagram and Pinterest - (photo orientated.), Tumblr and Reddit - (blog orientated.) to name just a few. On top of these there is a whole host of Facebook clones and similar platforms such as Tagged.

As a business you do not have to promote to ALL the social media networks on the planet, however it can be useful to have a presence on there, whether you want to point fans or followers to your website, or to the hub of your social media operations, such as Facebook.
It is certainly worth considering putting a social media action plan together where maybe either spending X amount of hours per week to seek new social media networks to join or simply looking for X number of new social media networks to join per week. Either way it can be a great way of extending your reach and you may get some surprisingly good results from the obscure ones.
