Former President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he is creating a new media company with its own social media platform, nine months after being banned from social media for his involvement in encouraging the Jan. 6 Capitol insurgency.

Trump claims that his purpose in forming the Trump Media & Technology Group and its "Truth Social" app is to compete with the Big Tech firms.
