5 Things That Will Kill Your Social Marketing Conversions

One of the first things that people entering the world of Internet marketing learn is the importance of social media in their overall marketing strategy. But just because an Internet marketer uses social media for his/her campaign doesn’t mean that they are using it to its full advantage. Many marketers lack social media monitoring tools as part of their social marketing strategies. These marketers often lack conversion rates to justify their overall campaign.

Here are some things that will kill your social marketing conversion rates and keep you from spreading your presence.

1. Not using social checkout with your shopping cart
It’s a common story: An internet marketer has conducted what he or she thought was an effective campaign, the customer has come to the site, picked the item they want, put it in their cart and then…nothing. They abandon the cart at the last moment and don’t return. Shopping cart abandonment is a huge problem for Internet marketers. Marketers using a social marketing strategy are committing suicide if they do not give their potential customers the chance to checkout using their social profile. Customers abandon shopping carts because checking out was difficult or time consuming.

2. Ignoring Easy Social Sharing
Encourage and make it easy for your customers to share their purchases of your product or service by sharing this information on social media. This should take the form of reviews, recommendations and updates. This will help your overall social media marketing efforts, since people tend to see information given to them through these channels as less of an active sales pitch. The customers you do gather via social media will be easier to convert into buyers. Social media is about sharing.

3. Ignoring Page Post Targeting
Defining the audience of your posts will significantly increase your reach to conversion rate (number of viewers that engage with your post divided by the total number of viewers). Keep your content relevant to specific audiences. Failing to do so will result in having more views to your post with a low conversion rate.

4. Focusing on too many social media sites at one time
It is often irresistible for novice Internet marketers to join and try to use every social media marketing outlet possible. Marketers who do this often find themselves trying to divide their time between all those outlets only to find that some of the sites are not paying off in terms of traffic. It is better for marketers to focus on a few of the larger social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube first and then move on from there once they have seen favorable results. Marketers may also consider letting other people monitor the results of their social media campaigns. The best social media management tools are provided by sites like Tweet Deck, Buffer, Omevo and Hoot suite.

5. Failing to respond to comments/questions
It is a huge mistake to ignore the comments and responses from customers that post on social media regarding your site. Make your responses seem as individual as possible.

No one who sells or even consumes anything online can deny or ignore the power of social media. People are constantly connected to Facebook, Google+, Twitter and other social media outlets like a long virtual tether. Marketers are connected as well. However, simply having a social media presence means nothing if conversions aren’t behind them. Effective marketing means not only having a presence on Facebook, Twitter, etc., it also means using them all efficiently.
